Celebrating excellence: Jordan Begg Named Databricks Champion
At Unifeye, our people are our power. As a pureplay Databricks consultancy, our expert services set us apart , and nothing demonstrates that better than the achievements of our team. So we are thrilled to celebrate Jordan Begg, who has recently been recognised as a Databricks Champion, joining an elite community of experts shaping the future of data and AI.
A huge personal achievement for Jordan, and a reflection of the calibre of talent at Unifeye and the dedication we bring to solving real business problems in every client engagement.
From Oil & Gas to Data Champion
Jordan’s journey with data began in the oil and gas industry, where digitalisation was transforming operations. Armed with Python skills from university, he quickly found himself working with large, complex datasets. Here he realised the transformative power of data, and how unlocking even the seemingly smallest insights could change the way organisations operate.
Discovering Databricks
Although Jordan first heard about Databricks early in his career, it wasn’t until a project alongside Unifeye’s Chief Data Officer and Databricks champion Bianca Stratulat and Raman Gupta that he had the opportunity to really dive in. That first engagement, a large-scale migration project, proved to be the launch pad for his Databricks journey.
Jordan’s first Databricks project was no small feat. Working across a multidisciplinary team, he helped:
- Migrate to a new cloud platform
- Upgrade to Unity Catalog for simplified governance
- Rebuild ELT pipelines as Databricks Jobs
- Introduce Lakeflow Declarative Pipelines for streaming data
- Adapt ML workflows with MLflow and the model registry
- Implement CI/CD with Databricks Asset Bundles for more robust deployments
Thanks to Jordan and team the client gained stronger governance, more reliable pipelines, and improved ML capabilities. It was a proud moment for Jordan and a clear demonstration of how Databricks expertise drives measurable outcomes. It got him excited to continue his learning journey.
For Jordan, Databricks has changed the way he approaches problems. Features like Lakeflow Declarative Pipelines allow him to focus on writing code rather than infrastructure, while new and upcoming tools such as Lakeflow Connect and Lakeflow Designer will make it easier than ever to ingest and consume data.
“Databricks makes my life easier in many ways,” he says. “It lowers the barriers, speeds up delivery, and creates more opportunities for innovation.”
Champion Status
Becoming a Databricks Champion is no small accomplishment. For Jordan, it represents both a personal milestone and an opportunity to contribute more deeply to the Databricks community, “It was a big personal achievement for me. I’m really excited to work more closely with and promote a platform that I truly believe in and that has the power to solve so many real business problems, not to mention so much momentum right now.”
Jordan is quick to emphasise that hands-on experience is the best way to learn. With the introduction of Databricks Free Edition, he encourages anyone interested to get stuck in, “It’s never been easier for new users to explore the latest data and AI technologies. I would encourage anyone who’s interested to go to the Databricks Learning Academy and check out all the training available”
Mentorship and Inspiration
Jordan credits two key figures in his journey:
- Bianca Stratulat — for her vast Databricks knowledge, tireless work ethic, and passion for helping others upskill.
- Raman Gupta — for his deep technical expertise, patience, and ability to guide others through complex challenges.
Their mentorship has been instrumental in Jordan’s growth — and is emblematic of the authentic, collaborative culture at Unifeye.
What’s Next?
For Jordan, the learning never stops. With a raft of new features announced at the Databricks Summit, he’s eager to continue experimenting, building, and pushing boundaries.
Congratulations, Jordan — we’re proud to have you leading the way. Go team Unifeye!
